It was a day of records at Wembley for Harry Kane as the Tottenham striker not only bagged a hat-trick but also broke the record for most Premier League goals in a calendar year.
Southampton were at the receiving end this time around as Kane started the scoring in the 22nd minute via a header which helped him go ahead of the legendary Alan Shearer in terms of goals scored in one year.
Kane might have scored his 37th league goal of the year but he was not done as he added a couple more on either side of half-time to take his tally for club and country to 56 goals for the year. Dele Alli, who has been struggling recently, also added his name on the scoresheet to take the tally to four for the match.
Son Heung-Min also got into the act and he scored our 5th before Sofiane Boufal got one for the Saints before Dusan Tadic made it a bit more respectable for the away side as it ended 5-2.
Twitter was one happy place after the win and here are some of the best reactions to the game.
Congrats to Harry Kane on being the top goalscorer of 2017. I wonder how much longer he’ll stay at Spurs. Oh and people who say “Messi this”, “Cristiano that”… Do you get any enjoyment out of anything?

The last 2 months have probably been the most out of form version of Dele Alli we’ve seen during his time at Spurs.
Yet he’s still been involved in nine goals (8 assists & 1 goal) in his last 10 games.
An end product even when you’re not performing well: a sign of a top player. pic.twitter.com/L9yWFJ4LYE

Can’t see Kane staying at Spurs when he could be playing for a Man United, Real Madrid or Barca

Well, I’ve seen Spurs smash Madrid & Kane break Shearer’s record at Wembley in the flesh this year.
I’m really hoping we can add a trophy to that somewhere along the line.#COYS #THFC— Dave Ellis (@fullback03) December 26, 2017
Feels like Fun But Also Ruthlessly Efficient Spurs might be coming back.

Most goals scored in a calendar year in Premier League history:
1. Man City (2017) – 101 goals
2. Man United (2000) – 95 goals
3. Spurs (2017) – 92 goals— Premier League Panel (@PremLeaguePanel) December 26, 2017
Everyone talking about what spurs are gonna do when Harry Kane leaves but his retirement is like a decade away so I think we don’t have to worry for a while.

Kicked on brilliantly from Burnley, Dele had a blinder again.
The best player I’ve seen in a Spurs shirt – Congratulations @HKane. #thfc #OneOfOurOwn pic.twitter.com/M3y4Llg4uh

Shame Lloris gifted Southampton a couple because that was one of my favourite Spurs performances under Poch. So much energy and flair. The front four at their very best and the full-backs contributing like last season.

Well done Spurs. The perfect way to end the year
