According to reports in Belgium, Club Brugge are working on signing goalkeeper Michel Vorm from Tottenham Hotspur. The Dutchman has been playing second fiddle to Hugo Lloris at Tottenham since joining the Premier League side in 2014 from Swansea City, with Vorm only making 10 league appearances for the club.
The veteran keeper’s contract is set to expire in the summer and Spurs could consider selling him in January in order to avoid losing him for free at the end of the season.
Belgian giants Club Brugge are interested in taking Vorm to the Jupiler League. Vorm wouldn’t be the only Dutchman at the Belgian league leaders, with Ruud Vormer, Stefano Denswil, and Jordy Clasie (on loan from Southampton) already at the club.
Vorm is best known for his spell with Swansea City for whom he made 89 League appearances between 2011-2014. The veteran Dutchman should be looking to play more regularly as he nears the end of a long career.
Lloris’ strong form means Vorm has rarely got opportunities to play in the Premier League – he featured only five times last season.
But in November, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino was full of praise for the Dutchman’s attitude.
He said: “When people complain, but if they aren’t good enough on the pitch or training session and there’s no commitment to the club or you, then that’s easy to say: ‘You are out’.
“He [Vorm] is professional. Players like him fight and show great quality and that’s my problem. It’s easy with those who complain. With players like Vorm, it’s difficult to say: ‘We are playing you and not you’.
“He complains with his performances in the training session. That’s his way to complain. To show me he deserves to play. That is the way to complain to the manager and not knock on the door.”
Paulo Gazzaniga, who deputised for the injured Lloris against Crystal Palace in November, was signed by Pochettino from Southampton in the summer.
Gazzaniga, who worked with Pochettino at Southampton, is currently the third-choice goalkeeper at Spurs but is expected to move up the pecking order after Vorm departs.
Pochettino is undoubtedly a fan of Vorm’s professionalism and would be unwilling to let him leave. But even if Vorm makes up his mind to leave North London, Poch would not bawl much as he will have an able deputy to Lloris in Gazzaniga.
