Tottenham Join The Race To Sign 32-year-old Serbian Defender From Turkish Club – Reports

There have been a number of rather absurd transfer rumours regarding Tottenham ever since Mauricio Pochettino took over and another one has just come up regarding our lack of defensive cover.

We have struggled without Toby Alderweireld, who is still recovering from an injury and he could be out until February. With a lot of games coming up, especially in the Champions League, Fanatik reports that we are tracking Dusko Tosic from Turkish giants Besiktas.

Tosic has been one of the better performers for the Turkish club this season and has played 22 games with three goals scored and an assist as well.

The Serbian is great when it comes to passing, even for a central defender, and that is one reason why many clubs are tracking his progress. The report from Turkey also claims that Stoke City are monitoring his situation and would be willing to bring him to England, maybe to pair him up with Kevin Wimmer.

While there are always doubts about players moving in from Turkey, the defender would be available to us for a fee of around €5million, which is a steal. The price point would tempt a few to try and sign the defender but there is one major problem when it comes to Tosic – his age.

The defender is 32 years of age and that could lead to a lot of problems for him when it comes to acclimatizing to the Premier League. The Serb would have to deal with some of the most physical players in the world and if he is not up for the fight, he just would not be able to cut it.

Tosic is a cheap option to have for cover and that is possibly the only reason why we are being linked with him. Losing another defender to injury would certainly derail our top four aspirations and even our chances of progressing into the latter stages of the Champions League.

It will be interesting to see how the transfer window plays out for us and with almost every top club looking to add strength to their side, we must do the same too.
