Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino gave details of his team’s mid-season training camp. Following the 4-0 Everton rout yesterday, Spurs are set to try a different adventure as Pochettino confirmed that they will head to Barcelona for their annual mid-season training camp.
The Tottenham manager described the trip as a good opportunity for the team to bond well with each other and gives the new members a good chance to express themselves to the fullest and feel more welcome in the squad.
Speaking after his side’s victory over Everton at Wembley on Saturday, our gaffer says he expects the team to benefit from the change of atmosphere as they enter the business end of the season and also hinted that his management are looking forward to the trip to Spain as well.
“Always every season I think it is important to stay all together for a few days in a different environment,” he told the club’s official Twitter account (h/t Football.London).
“It’s team building. With the new players it is always fantastic to spend 24 hours together doing things.
“Different things that we may not do here in London and always these situations are so important for the players, for the staff; for everyone.”
From December 13, 2017, to January 13, 2018, our team has played nine games in a taxing schedule which saw them play three games over a six-day period at one point. A team definitely needs rest to cope with the gruelling and intense nature of the Premier League, where there is no winter break, unlike the Bundesliga.
We have endured a mixed season so far in the league, but have done exceedingly well in the Champions League, where we play Juventus in the Round of 16 in February, before a return leg at Wembley scheduled to take place in March.
Also after beating AFC Wimbledon in the third round of the FA Cup, we head to Newport County in the final week of January in a bid to seal our spot in the next round.
Regardless of the Premier League title being out of our hands, Spurs are right in the mix for a top-four spot, battling the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool. With a hectic schedule set to follow, the trip to Barcelona represents a welcome break for the players to re-energise their batteries.
