Man United legend urges Tottenham to sign these 3 players this month

Rio Ferdinand

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has named three players who Tottenham should look to sign in the January transfer market to strengthen their squad for the business end of the season.

According to the six-time Premier League winner, Atletico Madrid’s Yannick Ferreira Carrasco, PSG’s Julian Draxler and Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez are all viable options right now and judging by the look of things, bringing even a single name from the list would be a great catch for the Lilywhites.

Speaking to BT Sport (h/t Sports Illustrated), during their live coverage of Tottenham Hotspur’s match against Everton, the former England international suggested that a team can somehow manage to keep Tottenham under their reigns if they shut down Harry Kane.

Hence, the Lilywhites need to find an alternate route for the running riots and in doing so, he has named three players who are currently vulnerable in the transfer market and could really look to move if an offer is made.

Ferdinand said: “Carrasco, will you get him? Draxler, who is surplus at PSG. You need those players that draw two or three out of positions. At the moment if you shut down Kane you go a long way to shutting down this Tottenham team. Mahrez even, someone like that.”

Judging by the current scenario, the former Manchester United man has made a ‘spot on’ argument. Taking Yannick Carrasco for instance, the Belgium international has failed to nail down a first-team spot this season and the fact that he has only made 6 La Liga starts this season is the perfect specimen of it. Besides, there are rumours that he recently had a rift with Atletico’s board, hence an imminent move could well and truly be on the cards.

On the other hand, Draxler moved to PSG in 2016 and after a decent start to his new life, he has struggled to get into the first-team. What has added further misery is the arrival of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. The duo is combining perfectly well and hence there is no real reason for them to get snubbed anyway.

As things stand for Riyad Mahrez, the Algeria international is now a well-known quantity in the Premier League circuit and a majority of Tottenham fans want him to replace Moussa Sissoko at the club. Mahrez was linked with a move away from Leicester during the summer and AS Roma even attempted a few bids, but to no avail.

The case, this time around, is completely opposite and if a decent amount is splashed, Mahrez could well arrive at the club this January.

Who do you think we should go for?
