Tottenham are reportedly eyeing a January swoop for Norwich midfielder James Maddison, according to reports. According to Evening Standard, Spurs are battling a host of clubs for the talented playmaker, who has also attracted interest from Manchester City, Liverpool and Leicester City.

Spurs were tracking the 21-year-old even before he joined the Canaries from Coventry in February 2016. It is understood that the North Londoners could look to win the race for his signature in the current window ahead of Premier League rivals.

Norwich are reluctant to sell Maddison this month after allowing former Spurs winger Alex Pritchard to join Huddersfield and they would demand at least £20m for the England U21 international. The report add that Mauricio Pochettino’s side would consider signing him now and loaning him back to Norwich for the remainder of the season, just like we did with Dele Alli and MK Dons when he first signed.

Maddison has taken the Championship by storm, scoring 8 goals and 8 assists already this season. He’s also an England youth international.

A product of Coventry’s academy, Maddison is adept both in the pivot and in an advanced role, with an excellent passing range and the ability to put in a very good tackle. He has quick feet, links the midfield with the attack very well and is a dangerous customer during set-pieces.

Maddison would, on one level be a fine addition but Spurs face an uphill task to convince Norwich to sell their prized possession. The playmaker was in action on Wednesday night in the dramatic FA Cup third round replay against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea qualified for the next round via penalty shoot-out and Maddison caught the eyes of Spurs fans. Our fanbase seemed particularly impressed with the 21-year-old’s showing and believe that he would be a fantastic signing for the club.
