Tottenham open talks for £35m Brazilian, thanks to Manchester United’s January deal

Lucas Moura

Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Lucas Moura, according to reports. Lucas has been at Paris Saint-Germain since 2013, but it appears he’s on his way out of the Parc des Princes. He completed a move to France in January 2013 and went on to establish himself as a regular in the first-team.

The Brazilian has won a lot of trophies with PSG but with the mega-signings of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe last summer, the winger has suddenly found himself on the fringes. The nippy winger has been linked with a move to Manchester United this month, but Jose Mourinho’s side are now on the brink of completing a surprise deal for Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez.

However, Spurs are now in talks with the Ligue 1 leaders over a potential deal for the 25-year-old, according to L’Equipe (h/t Metro). Spurs signed Serge Aurier from PSG in the summer transfer window, and according to the French publication, the link between the two clubs will only strengthen should Lucas join the north London club this month.

The report adds that Spurs have moved quickly in the past few hours and have initiated talks of a potential transfer deal. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy wants Lucas to join on a loan deal but PSG are only interested in selling the player.

Lucas’ price is reportedly €40million (£35m) but Spurs will be aiming for a significantly cheaper deal for a player whose contract expires next year.

The Brazilian, who has 36 international caps under his belt, has struggled to get regular games at PSG this season, and he knows that he needs to move away from Parc des Princes. After amassing 19 goals and 11 assists last season, he has been on the fringes of PSG’s side this season and has played just 72 minutes of football in Ligue 1 so far.

With Spurs firmly in the hunt for a top-4 place and a Champions League tie with Juventus coming up, it appears that Mauricio Pochettino is keen to see some fresh blood added to our squad this month. Pochettino wants to bolster his attacking unit and has identified Lucas as a perfect fit.

A move to Tottenham would be a tempting option for the out-of-favour PSG man and now it remains to be seen whether the North Londoners can agree on a deal in January.
