Tottenham offered major boost as French club show interest in a permanent transfer of the player

Lucas Moura

Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain’s Lucas Moura. Spurs have been linked with a host of new players in the January transfer window but there have been no new faces at Tottenham as yet.

Mauricio Pochettino remains keen on strengthening his squad in the January transfer window and is eyeing an attacker, with Spurs still fighting on three fronts. Our manager wants to bolster his attacking unit and has identified Lucas as a perfect fit.

He has allowed winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou to join Burnley on loan and that has left the club light in terms of attackers. Lucas has found regular first-team football hard to come by at PSG this season and the French club are listening to permanent offers for the 25-year-old Brazil international, according to Sky Sports.

The Brazilian has been at Paris Saint-Germain since 2013, but it appears he’s on his way out of the Parc des Princes. He completed a move to France in January 2013 and went on to establish himself as a regular in the first-team. Manchester United were keen on the nippy winger but are unlikely to pursue a move due to the imminent arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.

Spurs signed Serge Aurier from PSG in the summer transfer window, and the link between the two clubs will only strengthen should Lucas join the north London club this month. Lucas’ price is reportedly €40million (£35m) but Spurs will be aiming for a significantly cheaper deal for a player whose contract expires next year.

The ex-Sao Paulo man, who has 36 international caps under his belt, has struggled to get regular games at PSG this season, and he knows that he needs to move away from Parc des Princes. After bagging 19 goals and 11 assists last season, he has been on the fringes of the PSG first-team side this season and has played just 72 minutes of football in Ligue 1 so far.

With Spurs firmly in the hunt for a top-4 place and a Champions League tie with Juventus coming up, we definitely need fresh blood in the squad. A couple of signings would prove to be a real boost.

However, we are not renowned for doing business in the winter transfer window and if we really want Lucas this month, then our club has to step up its efforts.
