Tottenham Hotspur are confident of signing Bordeaux forward Malcolm before the end of January window in what is a stunning double deal after progressive weekend talks, according to reports.
As per Football Insider, the north Londoners are “confident” of securing the signature of the 20-year-old Brazilian before the end of January transfer window. Malcom was a top transfer target for Arsenal this month, with Manchester United expressing an interest as well. However, it now appears his most likely destination is Tottenham.
The report adds that Spurs are working hard on a deal to sign Malcom permanently and immediately loan him back to the French club for the remainder of the season. It is said that talks have taken place over the weekend to complete the transfer and that our manager Mauricio Pochettino is the driving force behind signing a player he believes can be a “valuable addition” to his team.
Bordeaux, however, are reluctant to lose the Brazilian due to their poor position in the league that has also seen them sack their manager Jocelyn Gourvennec after defeat to Caen last week. But with Spurs willing to let him return to Bordeaux for the rest of the campaign, they are ready to sanction a deal for the 20-year-old.
Malcom is regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in European football. The 20-year old, who came through Corinthians’ youth ranks and has two caps for Brazil’s U23 team. He has scored 7 goals and 6 assists at Bordeaux in 22 appearances across all competitions this season.
With all the recent speculation, Malcom was asked about his potential move to North London and he said that he would love to move to England if a move does materialise.
“I do not know if I will be staying or leaving. I leave that to my agents, to the club. If I leave that is great, I thank the club for everything,” he told reporters after his side’s 1-0 win over Nantes, as quoted by the Mirror.
“That is life. These are choices. There you go. Now we will see. If I have to stay, I will stay. If I am to leave, then I will leave. So long as I am here, I will do my work.
“Is England a dream? Yes it is a dream, it is a dream for all players and I am no different. As I said, I am here, I must think about working and nothing else. I must not think about leaving now.”
With Arsenal now out of the race, the path is clear for us to push the transfer through. In all fairness, Malcom would really be a fantastic signing for us.
