3 Pacey wingers Tottenham should target in the January window
Tottenham Hotspur are enjoying yet another impressive season under Mauricio Pochettino. We are at 5th place in the Premier League table, two points off 4th-placed Liverpool and are slated to play Juventus in the Champions League round of 16.
That said, Spurs are not the finished article and Pochettino, along with Chairman Daniel Levy, will be looking to strengthen our team this month. Our gaffer is not so keen to add fresh faces in the winter transfer window. But if the opportunity to sign a player arrives, I am certain Pochettino would look to persuade Levy to get a deal done.
There are good quality players in the team but the main question often arrives – why the highly rated manager and the youthful yet experienced squad haven’t actually won anything? The answer is pretty simple. Although we have a really talented bunch of players, we don’t have quality replacements on the bench.
As tough as it is to get players in January at a knockdown price, Pochettino should not lose hope and should strive hard to strengthen the squad to boost our chances in the three fronts we are currently fighting for.
Here are three pacey wingers Spurs should target this month, including out of favour PSG star Lucas Moura.
Nathan Redmond
Nathan Redmond is one of the players often criticised for not playing to his potential. Under Mauricio Pellegrino at Southampton, the nippy winger has struggled for form, making 21 appearances in all competitions but is yet to open his account this season.
However, his form this season just doesn’t justify the player he actually is. Redmond has all the attributes to be an effective and perhaps more consistent creative force for Tottenham. A left winger who can also operate on the opposite flank, as a secondary striker or as an attacking midfielder, Redmond is a player who Spurs should target.
The former Norwich man would finally get a manager in Pochettino, who would do everything to unlock the player’s real potential.
Wilfried Zaha
Wilfried Zaha was a subject of a failed bid from Tottenham last summer and we continue to maintain an interest in him. The Ivorian has been one of the very few positives in what has been a disappointing season for the Eagles. He has scored 4 times and has supplied 1 assist in 18 appearances this term.
Zaha’s explosive pace, coupled with his dribbling abilities and direct running make him an ideal option for Tottenham to have. Going by his performances this season so far, the ex-Manchester United man looks ready to shine on the big stage and Pochettino should seriously consider a bid for him this month.
Lucas Moura
The Brazilian winger is easily one of the quickest and gifted attackers in the world of football at the moment. But since the high-profile arrivals of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe at the start of the season, Lucas has fallen out of favour at Parc des Princes.
The French giants are keen to offload him by the end of the current transfer window and he has reportedly emerged as a Spurs target. Lucas is clearly not happy with his situation in Paris, after playing for just 72 minutes in the league this season.
At 25 years of age, he definitely deserves more time on the pitch and there is little chance that PSG will block an exit in January. Time is ripe now for Pochettino to make a bid for the highly-rated winger and bolster our squad.
