Tottenham Hotspur target Lucas Moura has emerged as an option for Arsenal in the January transfer window and the clubs are set to engage in a £35m battle for the Brazilian. Lucas has spent time on the fringes of Paris Saint-Germain’s first-team this season and the French giants are keen to offload him by the end of the current transfer window.
The Brazil international has been linked with a move to England this month and Tottenham are believed to be keen on signing the winger on a loan deal until the end of the season. Already linked with Spurs and Manchester United throughout the transfer window, Arsenal are the latest club to have shown interest in the PSG outcast, according to French sports daily L’Equipe (h/t Inside Futbol).
The Gunners have already signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan as part of Alexis Sanchez’s move to Manchester United and are in talks with Dortmund for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. It seems like Arsene Wenger is also considering signing the Brazilian winger, who has fallen out of favour at PSG.
However, the report adds that an agreement is far from being clear-cut as the French outfit want to sell Lucas this month to balance their books and meet the Financial Fair Play regulations. With PSG signing Neymar and Kylian Mbappe at the start of the season, Moura has only made six appearances for the club this season in all competitions.
The winger seems to be in frustration as he is not getting regular opportunities. Speaking of his lack of game time so far this campaign, the 25-year-old said that he is not happy with his situation after spending five years with the club.
The Brazil international told L’Equipe he is “gutted” at being frozen out by the French giants.
“It’s a brutal blow. I’m gutted that I’m no longer playing, to no longer be able to express myself as I was doing before. I’m not happy. I thought I’d built something solid with this club, but that’s clearly not the case.”
After bagging 19 goals and 11 assists last season, it is very sad to see Lucas not getting enough opportunities to play this season. He has played just 72 minutes of football in Ligue 1 so far. On the other hand, Mauricio Pochettino remains keen on strengthening his squad in the January transfer window and is eyeing an attacker, with our club still fighting on three fronts.
With Arsenal expressing an interest in Lucas, it is high time for Pochettino to act quickly and sign the player if he really wishes to.
