[Pictures] Tottenham stars train ahead of FA Cup game against Newport – key player has returned

published :

Tottenham face Newport County this weekend in the FA Cup and it could be an opportunity for some of our fringe players to get some much-needed game time.

The last game against Southampton in the league was a disappointment as it ended 1-1 at St.Mary’s. But to put that frustration behind, the game against Newport comes at the right time, as it gives us a chance to bounce back and book our place in the next round.

Captain Hugo Lloris missed the trip to Southampton due to illness but was spotted at our training centre ahead of the Newport game. The Frenchman’s return comes as a boost to our manager Mauricio Pochettino, who would be determined to get his icy hands of the FA Cup.

However, defender Toby Alderweireld, who returned to training last week, was not spotted at Hotspur Way this time around. Despite the Belgian being fit and raring to go, Pochettino might opt against fielding him for this game in order to keep him fresh for the mouthwatering clash against Manchester United next week.

17-year-old hotshot Tashan Oakley-Boothe was pictured training with the first-team on Wednesday at a windy and rainy Hotspur Way, holding off the towering Spaniard Fernando Llorente.

Oakley-Boothe is one of the highly-rated academy kids and played for the club in pre-season, featuring against Paris Saint-Germain. The teenager, who played a key role in England under-17 side’s World Cup win in India, was an unused substitute in the Carabao Cup win against Barnsley at Wembley earlier this year.

Oakley-Boothe’s presence in training means that the youngster could get a taste of first-team action at the weekend. Kyle Walker-Peters might also get the nod ahead of Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier. The youngster has impressed every time he’s been given a chance and surely deserves to play here.

Meanwhile, Lloris was spotted alongside Harry Kane and Heung-min Son as the trio looked shared a chat, while there were no traces of Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Erik Lamela in the training ground.
