Tottenham Hotspur have submitted a bid for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Javier Pastore, according to Sky Sports Italy transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio. Di Marzio has revealed on his personal website that the Paris-based club have received offers of £21.9million and £35million from Spurs and Liverpool respectively.
Pastore has fallen out of favour at PSG and has been linked with a move in January. He has made 18 appearances in all competitions this term, starting just 8 Ligue 1 matches.
Unai Emery’s side have a wealth of attacking riches, and after the addition of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe at the start of the season, Pastore has found first-team opportunities hard to come by. Knowing the fact that he will continue to be overlooked by Emery, the Argentina international wants to move on from Parc des Princes.
As per Di Marzio, the 28-year-old midfielder has rejected the possibility of a move to either of the Premier League clubs. Instead, the Italian journalist claims Pastore may favour a move back to Italy, with Inter Milan interested in landing the playmaker.
It is clear that the Argentine has his heart set on a return to Italy, having previously spent two years with Palmero before moving to PSG. The report adds that Inter are keen on a loan-to-buy deal but the French club are holding out for a permanent sale with a view to balance their books and adhere to Financial Fair Play rules and regulations.
Pastore’s agent is understood to be in Milan this week as he attempts to thrash out a deal before deadline day.
If one asks me if Spurs should make an improved bid for Pastore, my answer would be a yes! Pastore is a gifted attacker, technically sound, aerially good, with a penchant for scoring goals. Other than his playmaking abilities, he is very good at set-pieces and would offer Spurs a very different dimension in the attack.
Apart from Christian Eriksen, we don’t exactly have a ‘creative’ midfielder. So without a shadow of doubt, we should up our efforts in trying to sign Pastore, who is not only talented but could be a real difference maker under Mauricio Pochettino.
At 28, he should directly walk into Poch’s XI and alongside Eriksen, he would produce a whole lot of chances for our talismanic striker Harry Kane to score.
