Paris Saint-Germain winger Lucas Moura is on the verge of a permanent transfer to Tottenham Hotspur after arriving in London to complete negotiations, according to several reports. The Brazilian has barely featured for PSG this season and has mustered only six appearances for the Ligue 1 runaway leaders, under manager Unai Emery.
The big-money arrivals of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe at the start of the season have limited Lucas’ game time and the winger is determined to leave the club in the winter transfer window.
PSG are keen to offload Lucas as they attempt to balance the books and follow to the financial fair play regulations after high-profile signings of Neymar and Mbappe last summer, with the latter’s deal set to be made permanent this summer.
The football.london reports that Spurs have begun talks with PSG over the signing of the winger and that the French club have granted permission to the player in order for him to discuss terms with other clubs. Lucas met Mauricio Pochettino in London this week and our gaffer seems to have been impressed by the player.
The report states there is still plenty left in the deal’s completion, as terms are yet to be agreed with PSG and the player himself. Lucas and his representatives are also free to talk to other clubs after PSG manager Unai Emery admitted that the player has no future at the club.
Emery said: “I have talked to him and with all due respect to him, I think he has no options here and he has to look for another club because he is a great player.”
Yesterday, Football Espana reported that Spanish club Real Betis are interested in signing the PSG outcast. They launched a club record €30m bid for the 25-year-old.
However, the Telegraph reports that Lucas has visited Tottenham’s Hotspur Way training ground with PSG’s permission and is interested to play in the Premier League than in La Liga. Pochettino is a big fan of the player and has privately expressed his admiration for the player.
The window shuts next Wednesday and Moura is desperate to resolve his future before that. Should he join Spurs, Lucas would add some great attacking threat to our club and offer fresh impetus.
However, there is no deal done yet and PSG are open to selling Lucas permanently. It is now or never for Pochettino and Daniel Levy to grab the deal by the scruff of its neck and complete it before the window slams shut in a few days’ time.
