As days pass by, there is a different level of excitement building on with the fans regarding the construction of Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium.
We enjoyed a terrific night at Wembley on Wednesday as the boys defeated Manchester United 2-0. Despite enjoying that night, the fans are so keen to see the team play at the new stadium, which is expected to be complete as per schedule.
It feels so good to see the club keeping us updated with photos and videos of the new £850m stadium. On Tuesday, Spurs tweeted a video to show the fans how it will feel when they walk up the steps before getting a sight of the pitch. The next stage for the club is to complete the compression ring around the stadium so that the roof can be lifted on to the brand new ground this month.
The new ground is rising quickly and Chairman Daniel Levy remained hopeful last month that the stadium will be ready before the start of the new season.
“Unless there are unforeseen circumstances, I am very confident, and I wouldn’t be sitting here today otherwise, saying that the season we are about to enter in August, we will be playing our games here from the start of next season,” Levy was quoted by Football.London.
There is the added pressure for the stadium to be ready on time because it will host its first NFL game – as part of a ten-year agreement – when Seattle Seahawks play against Oakland Raiders in October, while Tottenham’s current temporary home Wembley will be hosting the other two matches this year.
Earlier this week, Tottenham applied for permission from Haringey Council to increase the seating capacity of the new stadium to 62,062 seats.
The club tweeted from their official account: “The Club has applied to Haringey Council to increase the capacity at our new stadium up to 62,000.”
“We shall provide an update on this application as soon as we have further information.”
There is a different buzz amongst the Spurs fans after the win over United at Wembley. As we prepare to face Liverpool on Sunday, there will always be an eye on the progress of our new stadium.
What an atmosphere it would be when the new stadium hosts it’s first game of the next season. Then there are NFL games and other events to take place which makes the wait a worthy one.
