Tottenham were linked with a move for one of Ligue 1’s shining stars of this season, Malcom and we were even named as favourites to sign the Bordeaux winger. A report from the Telegraph claims that we were willing to bid for the Brazilian but we could not close the deal with the French club in the January window.
However, we were not the only ones looking to sign the attacker as Arsenal were also linked with the youngster and a battle could be on to bring the Brazilian to London.
Now a report from LeSport10 claims that the French club will not part with Malcom for less than £53.3m while we had bid close to £44.4m for the 20-year-old in the winter window.
Is Malcom Worth The Gamble For Spurs?
The 20-year-old has been incredible for the Ligue 1 side with 8 goals and 5 assists to his name from just 23 appearances in the league this season. Malcom can play in a number of positions in the attack and can also play as an attacking midfielder, so Mauricio Pochettino can deploy him in a number areas.
There is not a lot of competition on the wings at Tottenham and the return of Erik Lamela to the club’s squad would be an important aspect to note. The Argentine has only recently made it back to full fitness and even scored in our FA Cup win over Newport, which can only be a good thing for him and us.
There could be a few players leaving, with Moussa Sissoko one of the stars on the list and if any one of them does leave, we might move for Malcom.
The youngster still has a lot of scope for development and that can be handled well by Pochettino and his team. There is only so far you can go in the French league and unless PSG come calling for Malcom, he will be on the move soon and Bordeaux would want to cash in on their star.
