Tottenham and Arsenal in race for 21-year-old Ligue 1 ace – Spanish reports

published :

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Toulouse defender Issa Diop at the end of the season. Arsenal are also keeping tabs on the 21-year-old, who is also attracting interest from La Liga heavyweights Barcelona.

The France youth international has been earning rave reviews for his performances this season and is tipped to be a future star.

The fact that the likes of Tottenham, Barcelona and Arsenal tracking him surely suggests he must be something special. Diop broke into Toulouse’s starting line-up three seasons ago and has led the team a lot of times, despite being just 21. This suggests he is way ahead of other players of his age.

Toulouse are struggling in the Ligue 1 this season, placed 15th and just a point above the relegation zone. Regardless of the poor form that has seen them fighting for survival, Diop has managed to impress and has garnered a lot of attention from various clubs across Europe, with Tottenham and Arsenal leading the race for his signature, according to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo.

Diop is robust, strong and physical, with a commanding presence in the air and would fit the bill perfectly at Tottenham. At 21, he is still a raw material but has all the ingredients to become a hotshot in the near future, provided he gets proper guidance and training.

The Frenchman of the Senegalese descent is exactly the type of player Spurs are used to signing in the last couple of seasons under Mauricio Pochettino. We broke the bank for youngster Davinson Sanchez at the start of the season and the Colombian has so far impressed in his debut season in the Premier League.

Just like Sanchez, Diop is also highly-rated across the continent and there aren’t any surprises to see our club vying for his signature. The Toulouse defender has immense potential to go on to become a top star in the near future and Pochettino is apparently the ideal man to groom him.

With Toby Alderweireld so far unwilling to commit his future to our club, Pochettino could take a dip in the next transfer market and find a replacement for the Belgium international, whose contract situation has reportedly alerted Manchester United.

A deal for Diop at the end of the season makes complete sense and Poch should start making plans from now in order to get the man from Toulouse.
