Juventus winger Federico Bernardeschi is set to miss his side’s Champions League last-16 clash against us according to Calciomercato and this will be a boost to our chances of progressing to the quarter-finals of Europe’s premier club competition.
The 24-year-old Bernadeschi suffered a knee injury during the second half of his club’s Serie A clash against Torino during the weekend and had to be taken off after showing signs of discomfort.
During the game which Juve won 1-0, Bernadeschi came on as a second-half substitute, replacing Gonzalo Higuain who suffered an ankle injury. Less than 20 minutes later, the in-form Bernardeschi set up a goal which was scored by Alex Sandro as he supplied the cross.
Bernadeschi reportedly has a more serious knee problem. While this will be terrible news for the Italians, it is good news for us.
He will be out of action for an estimated three to four weeks, which means that he is likely to not play against us when the “Old Lady” comes to Wembley.
Despite the fact that we played the better game in the first leg, securing a vital 2-2 away draw against the Italian giants, Bernardeschi was one of their most destructive players on the night and went on to win the penalty which was converted by Higuain.
The Italian caused problems for Ben Davies throughout the match and managed to draw the defender into committing a foul which led to the spot-kick which was successfully converted by Higuain.
He also was close to getting on the scoresheet himself during the second half of the match but fortunately, Hugo Lloris managed to deny him. We are now the favourites to progress to the last-8 considering that we scored two away goals.
However, we will still have to ensure that we defend well on the day. Despite the fact that Juventus will be without Bernardeschi for the match, we will still have to cope with the threat of the returning Paulo Dybala.
