Tottenham Hotspur are leading the chase for £50m-rated Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha. The likes of Chelsea and Manchester City are also believed to be interested in signing the Ivorian. Mauricio Pochettino has failed twice to land the Palace hit-man but is expected to make a move to sign him in the summer again. It appears Zaha is one of Poch’s top summer transfer targets.
The Mirror reports that the North Londoners are lining up an audacious bid for Zaha after the end of the season despite the January arrival of winger Lucas Moura from French giants Paris Saint-Germain. However, they are set to face a stiff competition from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City for the 25-year-old attacker.
Regardless of interest from other Premier League clubs, Spurs remain confident of luring Zaha from Selhurst Park. The report adds that Pochettino is keen to sign the Ivory Coast international as a statement of intent ahead of their move to their new stadium next season.
Zaha has been one of the very few shining lights for Crystal Palace this season in an otherwise gloomy campaign. The Ivorian has been a talismanic figure for the South Londoners and with his eye-catching performances, he has helped them to get out of the drop zone.
Given Palace’s early form this season, they looked destined for relegation from the Premier League. However, the arrival of Roy Hodgson has certainly galvanised Palace and although they remain just one point above the drop zone with 11 matches to go, there is confidence amongst the fans that the club will maintain their Premier League status beyond this season.
Hodgson’s work at Palace has been lifted by Zaha’s form, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury and remains a month away from a return to action despite stepping up his rehabilitation.
Zaha has been somewhat successful in being able to rediscover his mojo this season. The former Manchester United man’s return to form has alerted some of the Premier League’s bigwigs.
Palace know that their hitman could be lured away in the summer but remain determined to keep hold of him. Spurs, however, are set to try to test Eagles’ resolve again with a sensational bid for the jet-heeled Zaha after the completion of this season.
