Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing highly-rated Sheffield United youngster David Brooks at the end of this season.
Negotiations have already started between Spurs and Sheffield for the young forward and the Premier League club are hoping to agree on a fee of around £10million plus add-ons, as per the Sun.
The 20-year-old has been impressive for the Blades in an otherwise injury-plagued campaign. As a kid, Brooks has made several appearances for England before going on to play for the Wales national team.
Spurs are aware of Brooks’ immense potential and believe that the player can go on to become a future star. They feel that the midfielder could become a key part of the club in the futute and are ready to snap him up from the Blades.
The report adds that Tottenham’s scouts have also looked at other prospects but have decided to continue following the progress made by Brooks.
At just 20, Brooks is capable of doing things which other players in his age group can just dream of. He is extremely talented, quick and adept at playing anywhere in the attack. Going by his talent and potential, it makes no surprises to see that Mauricio Pochettino is keen to add him to his ranks in the summer.
However, Pochettino needs to be aware of the fact that Brooks won’t sign for Spurs just to become a benchwarmer. The player would love to walk straight into the first-team but going by the rich attacking talent that we have at our disposal, it would be difficult.
Signing Brooks just for the sake of it won’t make any sense as the 20-year-old is too good to play for Spurs’ youth teams and would be vying to make an impact on the senior team straightaway. Pochettino has a fantastic history of grooming talents and unlocking their potential. The likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Harry Winks are a few examples that speak volumes about the Argentine’s ability to nurture young talents.
I won’t be surprised if Brooks gets attracted to Poch’s history of keeping faith in youngsters and signs for us ahead of next season. However, Brooks must know it won’t be easy for him to walk straight into Spurs’ first-team despite having top potential.
