It looks as if Hamburg could play in the second tier of Bundesliga next season with results not going their way this campaign. With every passing week, Hamburg’s Bundesliga status looks to be in danger.
Should the club suffer relegation, they are expected to lose a host of star players at the end of the season. And one of Hamburg’s stars garnering a lot of attention is 18-year-old, Jann-Fiete Arp.
The forward made his debut for Hamburg in the Autumn and has featured in 14 out of 16 Bundesliga games, either as a starter or as a substitute.
But there is a high possibility that Arp could move out of Volksparkstadion if Hamburg’s relegation is confirmed at the end of the season.
And Sport 1 reports the highly-rated forward is garnering interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs are always ready to add talented youngsters to their squad and it looks like they have identified Arp as another hotshot capable of making it big at White Hart Lane.
The report adds Arp’s consultant Jurgen Milewski has already helped Leroy Sane move to Manchester City from Schalke in 2016 and knowing his player at Hamburg prefers Tottenham, is again willing to speak for a transfer in England.
The Germany Under-17 international is wanted by a number of top European clubs, with Spurs believed to be leading the race for his signature.
In Hamburg, the striker still has a contract until 2019 but the current deal contains a relegation release clause. This would mean that any club wishing to buy Arp in summer could do just by paying £8.8m should Hamburg drop to Bundesliga 2.
However, the teenager would be far more expensive if Hamburg somehow retains their Bundesliga status and that could put Spurs off from making their move in the summer transfer window.
Arp has been one shining light for Hamburg this season, showing real potential and scoring a couple of goals in an otherwise mediocre campaign.
Hamburg would definitely not want to lose Arp in summer but will be destined to if they fail to maintain their Bundesliga status.
The 18-year-old German is a talented player and Mauricio Pochettino would be willing to get the player ahead of the 2018/19 season.
However, he will have to battle the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal to secure Arp’s signature.
