“England have no World Cup hopes”, “If it is we are screwed” Fans react as Kane’s World Cup hopes hang in the air

Tottenham Hotspur and England are sweating on Harry Kane’s fitness after the striker left Bournemouth on crutches and wearing a protective boot. The 24-year-old limped off after injuring his right ankle in their 4-1 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday.

It is the injury on the same ankle that kept him out for a lengthy period last season. And just like last campaign, he could be out this season too.

Erik Lamela replaced Kane and the latter after receiving treatment, hobbled around the touchline to the changing rooms accompanied by a Spurs physio.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed to Sky Sports that the injury was “in his right ankle, possibly ligaments, similar to the injury sustained against Sunderland early last season.”

“I am concerned. Until tomorrow (Monday) and the scan we cannot say nothing more,” Pochettino told after the win.

“Of course I worry about him, his ankle. We hope it is not a massive issue for him and the team. We hope as quickly as possible he can recover and be available.

“But he’s positive. He is always positive. He is happy with the victory of the team. If you’re positive you start the injury return from today.”

According to the Sun, Kane will undergo a scan to discover the extent of the injury, just 99 days before the World Cup starts in Russia. The Three Lions face Tunisia on 18 June in their opening fixture.

Kane’s injury comes as a massive blow for England and Spurs, and the scans today will reveal the extent of the damage. With England’s squad for this month’s friendlies set to be announced on Thursday, here is how the fans reacted on social media.
