As per a report fromManchester Evening News (h/t Daily Star), Manchester United are planning a massive raid on Tottenham Hotspur this summer. The report has claimed that the Red Devils could be looking to lure three of our players to Old Trafford, with the promise of increased pay.
Over the years, Spurs have been known to be one of the clubs to offer a stringent pay package owing to our owner Daniel Levy’s ever-tight purse strings. We have lost a few important players due to this as well.
The report has gone on to say that United are monitoring Danny Rose’s situation and are also interested in Toby Alderweireld, whose contract talks appear to have paused for the time being. According to the report, Jose Mourinho is also keeping an eye on Eric Dier and that could prove to be a real problem for us.
With Ben Davies’ excellent form and the partnership struck up by Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez, losing Rose and Alderweireld might not hurt too much. However, losing Dier will certainly create a big void in the midfield and if we are to harbour any hopes challenging for the title next term, we cannot afford to let him leave.
The trio currently earns less than £100,000-a-week each at Tottenham, as per Manchester Evening News (h/t Daily Star), and there is absolutely no doubt that United more than capable of raising their current wages to make them all earn six-figure salaries.
In my opinion, Spurs must try to hold on to Alderweireld and Dier at the very least but with the temptation of increased wages, it could be tough for us to hold them back.
