According to the Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are looking at the possibility of signing Manchester United ace Sam Johnstone, who is currently on loan at Aston Villa.
Johnstone has been one of the star performers at Villa Park, helping them push for promotion in the Premier League. He returned to Aston Villa last summer following a highly impressive six-month loan stint with the Championship side.
The 25-year-old has failed to break into the first-team at Manchester United but has certainly made his presence felt in the Championship with a number of eye-catching displays between the sticks. He has been reliable, strong, commanding between the sticks and has won games single-handedly for Aston Villa this season.
Currently, Johnstone is in his 7th loan spell from parent club Manchester United and so far, the move to Villa Park has worked brilliantly.
Such has been the 25-year-old’s impact that it has seen him get tracked by Tottenham, who are looking for an understudy to Hugo Lloris should Michel Vorm leave in the summer, reports the Sun.
Johnstone, who has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the second-tier of English football, will become a free agent in the summer. Given the fact that Johnstone will be out of contract at United, Spurs should definitely look to snap him up at the end of the season.
With rumours of Johnstone to Tottenham Hotspur heating up, here is how the fans reacted on Twitter.
1) Vorm is class. 2) Gazzaniga is class. We do not need him
