According to a report from A Bola (h/t the Daily Mirror), Tottenham Hotspur are tracking Sporting Lisbon attacker Gelson Martins and sent scouts to watch the Portuguese sensation.
Martins has been a standout performer for Sporting in the last two seasons. The 22-year-old winger has searing pace, quick feet and can get past players in a flash. A brilliant dribbler, the Portuguese wide man is never tired of taking on the full-backs and makes the best use of his trickery and pace.
Martins, who is a regular starter in the national team, has continued to progress well at Sporting, contributing 8 goals and 7 assists from 26 starts this season.
The report claims that Manchester City and Chelsea had also sent scouts out to track Martins, while Borussia Dortmund also remain interested in the nippy winger.
The Portuguese ace is a flying winger capable of playing on both the flanks. However, he excels on the right and repeatedly uses his skill set to beat his man. Although the 22-year-old Martins doesn’t possess a bulky frame, he uses his body very well to keep possession when threatened by an opponent.
Currently at Tottenham, Mauricio Pochettino has a wide range of attacking options at his disposal. Despite having the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-min and Erik Lamela, Pochettino chose to beef up his squad in January by signing Lucas Moura from PSG.
However, the Portuguese international will offer a different dimension to our attack. Pochettino has time and again proved how good he is at nurturing young talents and surely, he will take Martins’ game to the next level.
