Harry Kane has been in the news for a lot of reasons this season. Be it for his effortless displays in front of the goal or for his never-ending transfer rumours, the Tottenham Hotspur talisman has been at the forefront of a lot of attention. However, recently, the player came into the limelight for an entirely different reason.
After the disappointing FA Cup semi-final loss to Manchester United, spirits were undeniably low in the Tottenham camp. This was a splendid opportunity to lay our hands on some much-needed silverware and we blew it despite taking the lead.
As if the loss was not bad enough, the FA Cup’s official Twitter account decided to inflict salt on the wound by tweeting a picture of Chris Smalling, according to a report from Sky Sports. In the picture, Smalling was asked about the contents of his pocket and he is shown responding with “Harry Kane”.
Now, it is not uncommon for such images to circulate after football games. Regardless of who wins or loses, there are several users across social media who put up such images and share them as a joke – which is understandable and inevitable.
However, for the FA Cup’s official Twitter account to tweet out a seemingly biased image was shocking, to say the least. Although the tweet was retweeted several times over, the account removed it after facing backlash, as per the report from Sky Sports.
The report has also gone on to claim that the FA has sent a written apology to both Manchester United and Tottenham for sharing the image in the first place.
The distasteful tweet angered a lot of our fans as expected but at the end of the day, all’s well that ends well.
