As per a report from The Mirror, Mauricio Pochettino is eyeing a summer swoop for a trio of Portuguese stars, which includes the likes of Gelson Martins, Cedric Soares and Ruben Neves.
The report has gone on to claim that Pochettino wants to keep his options open and is keen on rebuilding the squad once the summer window commences. There have been a lot of talks lately about how we lack the quality to go the extra mile and win trophies, hence it comes as no surprise that Pochettino is looking to sign three quality players in areas that we need cover.
Ruben Neves has been one of the most impressive Championship players this season. The Wolverhampton Wanderers star has shone for the West Midlands outfit on several occasions and he will be a key player for them once they start plying their trade in the top-flight.
With Mousa Dembele having just about a year left on his contract with Tottenham, a player like Neves could come in handy as a long-term replacement.
Similarly, Soares has played a starring role for Southampton, who look almost set to get relegated at the end of this season. Once that happens, luring the talented full-back away will be fairly easier. Given the ineffective displays by Serge Aurier at right-back, Soares would definitely be an upgrade.
As far as Martins is concerned, he offers immense pace and creativity from the wings, meaning he would help us boost our forces up front. The Sporting Lisbon star is equally adept on both flanks, providing us with yet another reason to sign him.
While the entire move might seem ambitious, it is necessary for us to show intent in the transfer window. All these players are more than capable of transforming a side and they could be the missing link for us in the seasons to come.
