According to a report by The Sun, Tottenham starlet Reo Griffiths has become a summer target for Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig. The 17-year-old recently played a starring role for Spurs’ U18 side as the youngsters beat Arsenal U18 9-0. Griffiths scored 4 goals and provided 3 assists in that encounter and his displays, in general, have been rather promising this season.
He will be out of contract at the end of the season as per The Mirror (h/t The Sun) and hence, it comes as no surprise that Leipzig are harbouring an interest in him.
Given his performances, Spurs should fight tooth and nail to hold on to him since he can become a future superstar for us. Harry Kane broke through into the team in a similar fashion and today, he is one of the top footballers in the world.
If Griffiths continues playing this way, there is no doubt that he too can achieve similar accomplishments in the Premier League. That day might be far but considering the pace of his rapid development, it will be sooner rather than later.
Interestingly, The Sun reports that Leipzig recently appointed Paul Mitchell as the head of their recruitment division. If any of you are wondering why that name sounds familiar, it is because he is a former Tottenham employee.
He joined us from Southampton at the same time that Mauricio Pochettino did and he was responsible for bringing in some of the finest talents. Now, at Leipzig, he aims to do the same and has reportedly set sights on Reo Griffiths.
Interest from foreign clubs will be default for any player who has performed as well as Griffiths has but it is important for Spurs to ensure they can hold on to him beyond the end of this season.
