Mauricio Pochettino slams FA for distasteful tweet, says Kane was saddened by it

published :

Tottenham’s star striker Harry Kane graced the headlines for all the right reasons at the beginning of the season but lately, his goalscoring skills are not the only thing in the limelight.

It all started with a fateful goal scored in our game against Stoke City. According to a report from The Sun, the goal was initially awarded to Christian Eriksen but Kane made an appeal claiming he had got a touch before it actually got into the net.

The report has also claimed that replays continue to cast a doubt over the authenticity of the claim but ultimately, it was awarded to Kane.

However, this behaviour is unlikely to have sat well with most of the footballing community. Just as people were beginning to forget it, another issue cropped up during Tottenham’s FA Cup semi-final loss to Manchester United.

Despite an early dominance, Tottenham lost control of the game as time wore on and to be fair, the Red Devils deserved the win.

Kane failed to score a goal in that game due to some superb defending from Chris Smalling which prompted the FA to tweet an unrelated video of Smalling replying ‘Harry Kane’ while the caption read ‘What’s in your pocket’. (Metro)

After severe backlash, the tweet was immediately deleted from the account.

Now, such activities are prominent among users on Twitter which often leads to healthy banter but for an official account to put out something like this was rather shocking.

Mauricio Pochettino has rightly slammed the FA for their behaviour and also mentioned that Kane was quite saddened by the situation.

“It was embarrassing, no?’ Pochettino said. “It was a shame, because the FA is English football and Harry is a potential captain at the World Cup.

“It is difficult to understand, very difficult, and they have apologised about that.

“The situation disappointed me. The fact it happened and then they apologised after a few days. But move on. That is the reality. We need to protect our assets, our English players, our young players,” said our gaffer.

He went on to add:

“Harry was very sad [about the FA’s tweet]. But he’s strong in his mind. He’s moved on. We are helping him to move on. It was a mistake and he needs to move on quick.”

It was a mistake indeed but a grave one. Some healthy banter among fans and critics is always encouraged but for the FA Cup account to tweet out something like that was extremely disappointing.
