As per a report from Football.London, Ajax centre-back Matthijs De Ligt has broken his silence about a potential move to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
The teenage sensation rose to prominence last season during Ajax’s impeccable European exploits and he has been a force to reckon with in the ongoing campaign as well.
With Toby Alderweireld’s contract set to expire next summer, there has been uncertainty surrounding his future. That leaves us with the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez. Both players have performed admirably but going forward, it will be necessary to have another centre-back in the mix.
A promising youngster like De Ligt will definitely prove to be a viable solution not just for our current troubles but also in the long run.
The Mirror had linked him to a big-money move to join Manchester City earlier but the player said:
“I am going to make a decision with my head, not based on money offers.”
Fast-forward to now and according to a tweet from reporter Simon Collins, De Ligt was asked but interest from Tottenham and to that he said:
“I do not know anything about it. And my agent does not know anything about it.”
Well, it remains to be seen how this situation plays out. There is absolutely no doubt about the fact that we could use a player like him but if other Premier League clubs chase him, De Ligt’s price will continue to increase.
In Sanchez’s case, Daniel Levy loosened his purse strings to a considerable extent but will he do the same for De Ligt? Only time will tell.
