Reo Griffiths has been one of Tottenham’s brightest academy players in recent times. He has been lauded time and again for his promising displays for the U18 side and he recently rose to widespread fame after putting in a spectacular display against the Arsenal U18s.
The 17-year-old scored 4 goals and provided 3 assists as Tottenham beat Arsenal 9-0. Since then, Griffiths has enjoyed his fair share of the limelight.
Such a player could go on to become a future superstar for us and according to ESPN, Tottenham will initiate talks of his first professional contract. It would not be surprising if Griffiths receives offers from different clubs this summer and ESPN claims Tottenham are keen to tie him down to a long-term professional deal in order to fend off interest.
Griffiths has enjoyed a brilliant season this term and has scored more than 30 goals for Tottenham. For the time being, Harry Kane is our ride-or-die striker but Griffiths could go on to become a key member of our squad in the years to come.
Spurs are often praised for their ability to bring out the best from young stars and under a manager like Mauricio Pochettino, Griffiths can reach new heights. With his blinding pace, goalscoring instincts, power and technical knowledge, the young Englishman could become the ideal successor of Kane.
Hence, offering him a long-term contract is certainly the need of the hour. Most clubs across Europe are willing to pay a lot of money for a youngster like Griffiths and it would be criminal for us to allow a situation like that to emerge. Most of our fellow supporters on Twitter seem to share the same thoughts. Here are some of the best reactions:
