A report from The Sun has credited Tottenham Hotspur with an interest in Giovanni Simeone, who currently plays for Fiorentina. He is the son of Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone but the youngster appears to be in a class of his own.
He has been a key player for the Italians and he rose to fame recently after playing a starring role in his club’s attempt to prevent Napoli from pursuing their Serie A title ambitions. The Naples-based outfit were leading contenders for the trophy but a stunning hat-trick from Simeone ended their hopes of doing so.
It comes as no surprise that clubs across Europe have sat up and taken notice. Quite unsurprisingly, Tottenham are one of the clubs eyeing a summer move for Simeone, The Sun reports.
The 22-year-old striker is an immensely promising candidate, who has been earning rave reviews for his performances this season.
He has scored 14 goals for Fiorentina in 37 appearances in the ongoing campaign and is widely renowned for his finishing skills.
At Tottenham, Harry Kane continues to be the undisputed striker but the club could use a deputy. Fernando Llorente has failed to live up to his billing and we cannot rely on Kane alone if we are to win trophies next season. Thus, a player like Simeone could prove to be beneficial for Tottenham.
He would be a great deputy for the time being and he could also become Kane’s long-term successor. Simeone can thrive under a manager like Mauricio Pochettino and given a choice, Spurs must actively pursue a deal for him.
