Tottenham are still interested in signing FC Cologne’s attacking midfielder in Leonardo Bittencourt, according to reports coming in from Germany (Bild)
Bittencourt’s current side will be relegated from the Bundesliga this season and that will have a role to play in his decision to move away from the club.
A report from Kicker last month claimed that the 24-year-old would be available for a cut-price fee of just £7m should his side get relegated.
Struggles all around for Bittencourt and Cologne
Bittencourt has not had the greatest of seasons for the struggling side as he has only scored six goals in all competitions and has five assists to his name.
Looking back at the season, it has been quite a fall from grace given that Cologne had even qualified for the Europa League last season and were looking to do well in the Bundesliga. However, they will now have to focus on a rebuilding job instead.
As for Tottenham, we have a similar situation at hand since we need to prepare for next season. We need to invest in the squad, at least in terms of getting quality cover for the likes of Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen, and it will be interesting to see if we do move for Bittencourt.
He has not set the world alight with his performances this season but he could turn out to be a decent signing given his rather low value.
Daniel Levy is known to look for good deals and this might interest him but we will get to know more about this transfer bit in the upcoming weeks, that’s a certainty.
