According to a report by The Sun, Tottenham are eyeing a £25million summer bid to land a deal for Boca Juniors midfielder Wilmar Barrios.
After a lot of debate about Tottenham’s lack of trophies, it is time for Mauricio Pochettino to make some significant additions to his squad.
If we are to truly compete at a greater level and win trophies, there are certain areas that need to be boosted and central midfield is certainly one such department.
Over the last couple of seasons, Eric Dier has emerged as a constant in that role and he often pairs up with either Mousa Dembele, Harry Winks or Victor Wanyama.
Dembele’s contract has not been renewed yet, meaning his future continues to be uncertain. Meanwhile, Winks is yet to recover completely from a horrific injury he sustained over the course of the recently concluded season.
That leaves Wanyama to partner with Dier and it is clear that Pochettino needs to bring in some quality reinforcements. To that end, a move for Colombian midfielder Barrios seems like a step in the right direction.
As per WhoScored, Barrios averages 3 tackles and 2.8 interceptions per game, which are great numbers for a defensive midfielder. His inclusion would boost Tottenham’s overall power in the heart of the midfield and his style of play is likely to align with that of Dier’s as well.
At £25million, it does look like a bargain deal for us. Thus, this seems like a great move and Pochettino must actively pursue a deal for the 24-year-old.
