Tottenham are just one of a number of clubs interested in Lille midfielder Yves Bissouma, according to Sky Sports. The 21-year-old was one of the most impressive players for the French club last season and played in 24 league games, scoring a couple of goals and assisting another.
The Mali international is being considered as a long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele, according to the report, as the Belgian’s future is still unclear ahead of the summer transfer window.
Bissouma seems to be a versatile player given that he can play as a defensive midfielder and also as a right-back. The report also goes on to say that we are not the only club keeping a tab on the 24-year-old, with Everton, Schalke and Monaco also interested in the midfielder.
Spurs kept an eye on the Mali international for the entirety of last season but nothing concrete can be made out of the club’s plans for the summer window until talks between manager Mauricio Pochettino and chairman Daniel Levy are done.
Spurs will have to add more players to the side for the upcoming season if they are to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title. We might have finished 3rd in the league but we were far behind the winners in terms of points.
Pochettino’s side finished 23 points behind City in the standings and that number has to reduce next season if we are to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League crown.
Bissouma is known for his tackling and defensive ability in the middle of the park and he could be one of those surprise signings from Pochettino that could turn out to be a gem in the Premier League.
The Argentine manager has not always had the best of luck when it comes to bringing in players to Tottenham, such as Vincent Janssen but he has to spend wisely in the transfer window or we could end up going far behind our rivals when the new season starts.
