According to a report by ESPN, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a summer transfer for West Bromwich Albion defender Ahmed Hegazi.
West Brom may have made the drop to the Championship after a lacklustre season but and it is expected that a number of their players will jump ship. It seems like the Egyptian centre-back will be one of them.
The Baggies struggled in a lot of aspects last season and yet Hegazi put in some eye-catching performances at the back. It was unfortunate that he got stuck in a team that failed to deliver results but it did establish him as one of the most promising defenders in the league right now.
In addition to making an average of 1.6 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and an astonishing 7.2 clearances per game, Hegazi also managed to score 2 goals for West Brom last season. These numbers show that he is an exceptional player and he could work wonders for Tottenham.
At 27 years of age, Hegazi boasts of a fair amount of experience as well and with all the uncertainty surrounding Toby Alderweireld’s future, it will be great to have a player like the Egyptian in our team.
Throughout the recent season, we mainly relied on Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen as our first-choice centre-back pairing but going forward, it will be important to boost our forces in that department.
ESPN claims that West Ham United and Leicester City are also monitoring Hegazi and we might have to go through a tough battle to sign him but from what we have seen, it will be worth it.
