As per a report by The Sun, it looks like Tottenham will not let Toby Alderweireld join Manchester United without securing Anthony Martial in exchange.
Spurs have been interested in the French attacker for a while now and United, on the other hand, are understandably keen to boost their defensive forces with Alderweireld.
The Sun goes on to claim that Mauricio Pochettino will not allow the Belgian defender to leave for anything less than £70m-plus and it remains to be seen if United are willing to spend that much.
Regardless, if they manage to work out a deal, there is no doubt that a player like Martial could significantly boost our depth in the attacking department.
Interestingly, both Alderweireld and Martial appear to have endured a similar season. Alderweireld lost his place to Davinson Sanchez whereas Martial has failed to make room for himself in the starting XI ever since Alexis Sanchez came into the picture.
However, the situation cost the young Frenchman in a significant manner as he missed out on securing a place for himself in France’s squad for the FIFA World Cup next month.
That setback is major for Martial and hence, he could be tempted to move to North London and revive his career under Pochettino’s guidance.
However, the potential swap deal depends on numerous factors. That said, Daniel Levy is known to be one of the most business-oriented owners in the game right now and knowing his negotiating prowess, we might be able to pull this off.
