Tottenham face a battle if they are to sign one of the best young defenders from France in Benjamin Pavard. The 22-year-old has been one of the star players for Stuttgart in the Bundesliga and even helped the side achieve promotion a couple of years ago.
The defender will also be going to be the World Cup with the France squad and it was reported earlier that Pavard could leave the Bundesliga club for a low fee of only €30m.
A report from Sport.de also claimed that another Bundesliga club, Bayern Munich, could be a destination for the defender. Stuttgart have come out and suggested that €30m is too low a price for Pavard.
It might be tough to take on Bayern and their might when it comes to signing players but Pavard certainly is one player that can bolster any defence. The 22-year-old played 34 games for Stuttgart and even got a goal to his name.
The youngster can even play as a right-back or as a central midfielder and his versatility will come in handy. It will be interesting to see if we can lure him to the Premier League as Mauricio Pochettino does have a history of promoting youth players.
One example of a player slotting straight into the first-team has to be Davinson Sanchez. The former Ajax man was one of the best defenders in the league last season and even after Toby Alderweireld’s injury issues, the Colombian barely looked out of place for Spurs.
That, coupled with the fact that Pochettino is willing to give youth a chance could seal the deal in bringing Pavard over. The youngster could be a perfect replacement for Alderweireld who has been heavily linked with an exit from the club.
The World Cup will be interesting to watch in terms of how Pavard does. Should he get games for France and perform well, Stuttgart will probably bump his price up and try to get as much as they can for the 22-year-old.
Hopefully, we can sign the youngster up and bring him over to our new stadium as we look to build a squad that can challenge for the Premier League title and more next time around.
