According to a report by The Telegraph, it seems like Spanish giants Real Madrid are set to make an attempt to sign Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino after Zinedine Zidane’s shock resignation.
To be honest, Zidane’s departure was a surprise. He enjoyed a widely successful spell with the club, winning a good number of trophies in both seasons of his tenure. In fact, even though they were lacklustre in the La Liga last term, Zidane still managed to script history by leading Real to their third consecutive Champions League victory.
However, now that he is gone, The Telegraph claims Real will try to lure Pochettino to Spain even though our gaffer recently signed a new contract with us which will expire only in 2023.
The report further states that Real owner Florentino Perez is an admirer of Pochettino, particularly after we managed to beat the La Liga outfit in the Champions League group stages last season. It goes without saying that Poch is a talented manager and he seems to have a flair for developing talent.
It will be interesting to see if Real approaches our boss despite the fact that he signed a new contract hardly a few days back. But given the circumstances, we cannot afford to lose Pochettino at such a crucial time.
The opportunity to work with a club like Real Madrid will undoubtedly sound enticing for him but let’s hope he is committed enough to resist any offers put forward by the club. To succeed, we need Pochettino and Spurs must do everything to retain his services.
