According to a report by France Football, Tottenham Hotspur have initiated talks with RB Salzburg regarding a possible move for Amadou Haidara this summer. Coincidentally, the report also adds that our London rivals, Chelsea, are also lurking for a transfer.
A central midfielder by trade, Haidara managed to score a total of 7 goals in the recently concluded season. He averages 1.6 shots per game while also boasting of exceptional aerial capabilities. On an average, Haidara wins 2.6 aerial duels per game, which is quite an impressive figure.
The 20-year-old played a key role for Salzburg as they picked up the league title last term and it goes without saying that they will not let him leave without a fight.
But if we pay the right price, we could stand a solid chance of acquiring his signature. For a good majority of the previous campaign, Mauricio Pochettino utilised a 4-2-3-1 formation and he went ahead with Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele as the primary midfield partnership.
With Haidara in the mix, it will certainly provide an interesting alternative for Pochettino. However, since the player is quite young, it is important that he prioritises regular game time and to be fair, Tottenham are not exactly faced with a dearth of options in that area.
While he could offer some much-needed creative outlet from the middle of the park, it would be unwise to sign a player like him without being able to guarantee regular playing minutes. Thus, unless somebody exits the club this summer, it would be better for Spurs to stay away.
