Tottenham are among a number of Premier League clubs that are interested in PSV Eindhoven youngster Steven Bergwijn according to De Telegraaf (h/t The Mirror).
The report from the Netherlands claims that the 20-year-old winger has been a target for Spurs for a while, however, Unai Emery, the new Arsenal manager, has also eyed the tricky winger as he looks to add more attacking options to the Gunners’ ranks.
Another club that has reportedly kept an eye on the young Dutchman is Liverpool and the report also goes on to claim that West Ham United and Bournemouth are the other clubs keeping a close eye on him.
Bergwijn has a contract that runs up to 2021 and is expected to make it to the senior national side as the Netherlands look to regroup from a disastrous World Cup qualifying campaign that saw them miss out on the tournament in Russia.
A winger that can play on either side of the attack
While Bergwijn is known for his attacking ability, he can play on either side of the attack and he scored 8 times, providing 7 assists in the league for PSV last season.
As is the case with most talented youngsters coming out from the Eredivisie, Bergwijn has a lot of potential but he will need to move abroad in order to achieve it.
It is interesting to note that Liverpool have kept an eye on the player for a while. They can claim to have pushed a number of young players to the first-team under Jurgen Klopp last season but we are doing the same under Mauricio Pochettino.
Bergwijn might not be world-class at the moment but he could turn out to be a cheap signing that can become a great player under the tutelage of a quality manager like Pochettino.
