Former Rangers manager Ally McCoist does not believe that Tottenham target Jack Grealish is ready to start games for Tottenham.
The Aston Villa man has been linked with a move to Spurs as the Villans missed out on a place in the Premier League and McCoist does not see the 22-year-old becoming a regular for Tottenham at the moment.
McCoist was speaking on Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast (h/t Football.London) and said:
“I do think he has the ability to progress and play at that level. Is he ready right now for the Spurs first team? I would suggest no.
“I don’t think so, I don’t see him being a regular in that side at this moment in time. That’s a decision he has got to make.”
McCoist however, did add that we are playing the kind of football that Grealish could play in the future.
“For that move to go ahead he would have to realise he is probably not going to start every game. [But] They do play the type of football that I could see him playing.”
Villa want £40million for the 22-year-old however, Tottenham are looking to get the English midfielder for a cheaper price.
McCoist also added that he does not think that Grealish would be affected by the price tag put on him and the Villa youngster will be able to deal with whatever amount is paid for him.
It is true that Grealish would not start many games for us but if he impresses Mauricio Pochettino enough, the 22-year-old could become our next midfield general.
The sky is the limit for youngsters at Tottenham under Poch and if Grealish wants to get better, he should move here.
