Borussia Dortmund are planning a bid to sign Victor Wanyama from Tottenham, according to the Bild (h/t The Sun). The report claims that the Bundesliga side want to add some steel to their midfield and will target the former Southampton midfielder.
Wanyama only made eight starts in the Premier League last season as he struggled with an injury. And the report adds that Mauricio Pochettino would be looking to cash in on the Kenyan as the 26-year-old struggled to make it back into the starting XI.
The report adds that we are not looking to sell the player on the cheap as the 26-year-old still has three years left on his contract.
Wanyama certainly is a decent player to have in the side but his injury issues were problematic for us last season as we had a number of games to play and covering for the likes of Eric Dier and Harry Winks was tough.
Injuries to Winks and Mousa Dembele further compounded our midfield issues last season but having a fit Wanyama is great for the Spurs side. The Kenyan is combative in the heart of the park and provides us with a lot of bite too, so we need to keep such players in the side.
Dembele is another player that has been linked with a move away in recent weeks and it would be a mistake selling both players.
Keeping hold of Wanyama for one more season would not be the worst decision. The Kenyan can prove if he is just as good as he was before his injuries and should things not work out, we can then think of selling him on to another club.
