Boca Juniors are desperately trying to keep their Colombian star as interest from Tottenham for Wilmar Barrios heats up.
The 24-year-old midfielder is currently with the Colombian national side in the World Cup and had reportedly stated that he would remain with his Argentine club after the tournament, as their season would resume with the Copa Libertadores, according to The Independent.
However, things have been a little different as he has been in contact with Spurs man Davinson Sanchez and a big contract from one of the top sides in the world could make the 24-year-old change his decision about staying in Argentina.
Boca are now offering him a much better contract to keep him with the club but there is a major problem regarding a release clause in his current deal.
The Colombian could be signed for a fee of just £14.5m with his current club having no control over the player’s departure at all.
However, the report is quick to add that no fee has been finalised by Spurs yet, however, if it comes in the coming weeks, Boca Juniors will lose out on one of their top stars.
Barrios certainly has seen his stock rise up in recent months and spending £14.5m on a player with potential is peanuts in the current market.
Mauricio Pochettino has certainly brought in a number of South American players during his time with Tottenham as we have seen the likes of Juan Foyth, Sanchez and even Luca s Moura sign for the club. Hopefully, this turns out to be another brilliant bargain signing for us.
