The golden generation of Croatia really proved their worth after an incredible performance against Argentina in their second World Cup clash.
The Europeans did start the campaign off with a win in their first group game but no one would have imagined such a dominant performance against one of the favourites for the title.
At the heart of it all were two midfield maestros, Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic, and both players got their names on the score sheet after Ante Rebic scored a wonderful volley from a misplaced pass by Willy Caballero in the 53rd minute.
Modric sealed the three points and a place in the next round with the second goal of the night and a lot of Tottenham fans were contemplating just what could have been had the Croatian stuck around at Spurs.
The former Tottenham man moved to Real Madrid in 2012 for a reported fee of £30m and has won numerous trophies for the La Liga giants but Twitter certainly was flooded with Spurs fans thinking of what could have been.
Modric is so under appreciated…he was great with Spurs, but he’s moved onto a different level entirely now. World class.

Now Spurs are linked with Modric, I see *rubs hands together gleefully, even though this probably won’t happen in the slightest*

Spurs with a Modric would be City’s only challengers.

I still to this day don’t understand the hate Luka Modric got when he left Spurs.
The single best midfield player we’ve had in 30 years. The man’s a fucking magician.
Be thankful you got to see him in a Spurs shirt. 💙

My dad’s always said that he’d have Modric back at Spurs in a heartbeat! Luka is an incredibly special player who literally can unlock defences! Dad always used to say that we were lucky to see him play every week for Spurs! #CRO #WorldCup

Bale was incredible, Kane is phenomenal, but Modric is still the best player I’ve ever seen play for Spurs.

LUKA MODRIC. You sir are an absolute world beater and have been for years. Wonderful footballer and one of the best I’ve seen in Spurs shirt. 🔥🔥🔥
