According to a report by Argentinian news outlet Ole, Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid are set to battle it out to sign Juan Fernando Quintero. The 25-year-old is on the books of FC Porto but he plays for River Plate on loan and is currently with the Colombian squad for the ongoing World Cup in Russia.
The report further states that the Argentine club are looking to purchase him permanently and if they do that, Quintero’s release clause would stand at £19.5million.
An attacking midfielder by trade, Quintero has received widespread praise for his impressive displays for Colombia. His creative playmaking skills have truly elevated the country’s performances and that has attracted interest from Real and Tottenham.
With the summer window up and running, numerous clubs are monitoring the World Cup matches to find promising players and it comes as no surprise that Quintero has made his way to that list.
Having faced Japan and Poland so far, the talented midfielder has notched up some fine performances. Against Japan, he scored a brilliant free-kick which was followed by a splendid assist to set up Radamel Falcao’s goal against Poland.
It will be tough for us to match Real Madrid if a bidding war ensues but given his talent and skills, Tottenham could benefit by making a move for Quintero.

As things stand, we could utilise the services of a creative midfielder. With the likes of Christian Eriksen and Heung-min Son regularly playing as wingers, Dele Alli was tasked with the No.10 role for a good majority of the previous term.
Quintero’s presence would definitely boost our forces and also provide healthy competition for Alli. Hence, given a chance, Spurs should pursue a deal for the Colombian sensation this summer.
