Tottenham have been dealt a big blow in their hopes of signing Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon after their president Jean-Michel Aulas stated that the young Frenchman will be a Lyon player for another year.
While speaking to RMC Sport (h/t Football.London), Aulas was quoted as saying:
“We have not had any offers for him. While other clubs are interested, he will be with us next year in the middle. We must not let our best players leave.”
This comes after Lyon manager Bruno Genesio was unsure about confirming if Ndombele would be a Lyon player next season.
“I want to keep Tanguy Ndombele. We want to keep our structure. The market is crazy, you never know. It is far too early to say that all the doors are close.”
Ndombele has been linked not only with a move to Spurs but also with Chelsea as the Blues are looking to replace N’Golo Kante, who has been linked with PSG.
The young star did perform quite well for Lyon. His performances have caught the eye of Arsenal and Manchester United too and that could lead to a bidding war between the clubs involved.
Ndomlebe could be a good option for us to replace Mousa Dembele should he move away from the club. However, dealing with Aulas is a pain as Liverpool have found out and this could just be a ploy to get as much money as he can for the 21-year-old Ndombele.
