Tottenham have ideal replacement in mind if Toby Alderweireld leaves the club

Tottenham are keeping an eye on French star Benjamin Pavard and see the Stuttgart man as the replacement for Toby Alderweireld, according to the Mirror.

The report claims that should Alderweireld leave the London club this summer, Pavard would be the ideal replacement for the Belgian.

The 22-year-old has been deployed as a right-back for France in the World Cup but his best position is that of a centre-back, something that Mauricio Pochettino is keen to explore.

Pavard has had a great time with the national side as they have won the World Cup. The 22-year-old is extremely versatile as last season, he also played as a defensive midfielder for the Bundesliga club.

The French defender’s age is perfect for Pochettino too and will certainly get better under the right manager. However, there could be one problem, as Pavard signed a new contract with the Bundesliga club last December.

Tottenham should have enough money to sign Pavard should they end up selling Alderweireld and this is one transfer that does tick all the right boxes.

The Argentine has favoured youth in recent transfer windows, with signings such as Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth.

Pavard could follow a similar trajectory at Tottenham and it would be great if we do make a bid for him. But we would have to wait for a few days as the player has just completed his national team duties.
