Tottenham Hotspur want to hand Erik Lamela a new contract, as per Sky Sports Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marzio.
Lamela’s current deal runs until next summer but Tottenham are trying to work out a contract that would run until 2021 or 2022 as our club must avoid losing him for free.
The 26-year-old winger has always been a favourite of our manager, Mauricio Pochettino, who should prepare a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title in the upcoming season. And Spurs’ reported contract offer suggests that Pochettino is keen to utilize his compatriot next term despite signing Lucas Moura in January.
Signed from AS Roma back in 2013, Lamela has failed to live up to the billing at Spurs, often showing glimpses of his talent. The Argentine has spent most of his time on the treatment table but was able to keep himself fit to some extent last season. He made 25 Premier League appearances but was largely used as a substitute by Pochettino.
When fully fit and running, Lamela is an exciting player and a treat to watch. He is a tireless worker on and off the ball which is why he is such a valuable asset to Pochettino and our club.

However, Tottenham’s reported decision to extend Lamela’s stay in north London have seen mixed reviews emerging from our fanbase. Here are some of the best reactions.
I’m down with this. Can’t understand those people that don’t like him. Can play, always works hard, is always up for the scrap and loves playing against our rivals. Spurs legend tbh

Lamela has to go because he brings nothing to our team.

To be fair to Lamela, everyone gave him stick and he worked his arse off to prove us wrong. Last game of the season showed us what he’s capable of. Hopefully now his injuries are behind him and he can fulfill his potential and prove the doubters wrong! 💪🏻

Always supported him. Needs to deliver a lot more if he’s going to hang around.
