According to Sky Sports Italy reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, Tottenham Hotspur and winger Erik Lamela are locked in talks over a contract extension.
Both parties are trying to work towards a deal that would run until 2021 or 2022, with the Argentine’s current contract due to expire in the summer of 2019, claims Di Marzio.
Lamela joined Tottenham from AS Roma five summers ago but is yet to fully convince that he is the right player to guide the club to the Premier League title.
The skilful Argentine has struggled with several injuries during his time with Spurs but he did enjoy a relatively healthy 2017/18 campaign. He made 25 Premier League appearances for the club, including seven starts. Most of his appearances were as a substitute but he still managed 2 goals and as many assists in the Premier League.
Lamela may divide opinion amongst our supporters but it is pretty easy to see why Mauricio Pochettino likes his compatriot so much. The 26-year-old is a passionate player who works tirelessly for the team and never shies away from flying in for a crunching tackle.
He is always willing to press the opponents with his never-ending energy that makes him such a valuable asset to have in our squad.
If Lamela does agree to a new deal, he will be following the footsteps of Harry Kane, Pochettino and Davinson Sanchez in committing their futures to the club. The Argentine is just 26 years old and hopefully, we get to see his best in the coming years.
